Soybean Oil Refining
The steps of soybean oil refining process include four steps: degumming, deacidification, decolorization and deodorization.
The purpose of the degumming step is to remove peptic impurities in soybean oil. When degumming, first pass the crude oil into the degumming equipment, and add hot water at about 80°C while stirring. The hot water reacts with the phospholipid molecules in the oil to form micelles. After precipitation and separation, the peptic impurities in the oil can be removed to achieve the purpose of degumming. It takes 6-8 hours to settle.
The purpose of the deacidification step is to remove free fatty acids in soybean oil. The common method of deacidification is chemical deacidification, that is, adding lye to the oil to neutralize the free fatty acid, thereby removing the free fatty acid. After the neutralization reaction, the by-product soapstock will be produced, and the deacidification can be completed after the precipitation is discharged. The precipitation time is also 6-8 hours. Some soybean oil manufacturers also choose physical deacidification methods to remove free fatty acids, that is, high-temperature water vapor is passed into the oil, and the principle of distillation is used to remove free fatty acids. Physical deacidification has less loss and good deacidification effect, but the cost will be higher. Customers can choose deacidification methods according to personal needs and deacidification requirements.
The purpose of the decolorization step is to remove the pigment in soybean oil. When decoloring, add adsorbable clay to the decoloring equipment to absorb the pigment in the oil. The adsorption and decolorization time is about 30 minutes. After the adsorption, the soybean oil is passed into the leaf filter to filter out the waste white clay that has adsorbed the pigment, thereby completing the decolorization step.
The purpose of the deodorization step is to remove odorous substances in soybean oil and enhance the flavor of soybean oil. When deodorizing, the soybean oil is passed into the deodorizing equipment, and high-temperature water vapor is passed into it. The difference in the volatility of oil and odor substances is used to remove odor substances, so as to achieve the purpose of deodorization.
In order to prevent high temperature oxidation of soybean oil in the air, the deodorized soybean oil needs to be cooled to about 60°C before being transported into an oil tank for storage.
